Elegant antique Asian portable writing slope crafted in lacquered wood and decorated with refined floral motifs and bird figures, reflecting the ornamental taste of the first half of the 20th century. This charming travel writing box combines functionality and decorative appeal, making it an attractive piece for collectors of Asian art, Oriental antiques, and vintage writing accessories.
The interior retains its complete original configuration, featuring storage compartments, small lidded sections, and a fabric-covered writing surface originally intended for correspondence, documents, letters, and writing instruments.
The writing slope is complete and remains in good overall condition. Signs of age, wear, and several restorations to both the lacquer finish and the interior fabric covering are present, as visible in the photographs. The lock escutcheon has been replaced. In addition, the wooden panels have slightly warped over time due to the natural aging of the materials; in order to allow proper closure, the lock catch has been repositioned slightly higher than its original location. These alterations do not affect the overall functionality and testify to the authentic history of the piece.
