Beautiful vintage Japanese lacquer jewelry box distinguished by its exceptionally rich and detailed decoration.
The decorative scene features traditional Japanese landscapes with pagodas, bridges, and Mount Fuji, enhanced by numerous iridescent applications that create striking reflections. The top is further embellished with raised decorative elements that add depth and character, while the border is enriched with mother-of-pearl effect inlays. Decorations extend across all sides of the jewelry box and continue inside, reflecting the craftsmanship and ornamental richness typical of Japanese giftware and collectible pieces.
The interior lights are working; however, when inserting the batteries, care should be taken to ensure proper positioning so that the electrical contacts connect correctly. The music box is also in working order and adds further charm to this unusual decorative piece. The melody has not been identified, but it appears to be inspired by an Oriental composition. While its origin cannot be guaranteed, this is a rather unusual feature compared to many Japanese jewelry boxes produced for Western export markets, which frequently played popular European or American melodies. This detail contributes to the distinctive and collectible character of the piece.
The overall condition reflects its age. The lacquer finish shows several restoration interventions and visible wear, while the mirror also shows age-related wear consistent with the item's vintage nature. These aspects are clearly visible in the photographs and do not detract from the jewelry box's decorative and collectible appeal, which retains strong visual impact thanks to its abundance of details, colors, relief decorations, and iridescent finishes.
The key and batteries are not included.
