Rare and evocative devotional group depicting Saint Anne, Saint Joachim, and the Virgin Mary as a child, made of polychrome terracotta with applied fabric garments and a modeled base. The composition, rich in narrative and emotional intensity, represents the extended Holy Family according to an iconography particularly cherished in domestic and conventual devotion during the 19th century, intended for small private altars or intimate devotional settings.
The three figures are characterized by a deeply expressive and human rendering: the faces, modeled with great sensitivity, display mature and contemplative features in Saint Anne and Saint Joachim, while the child Virgin Mary is depicted with gentle delicacy and an upward gaze. The glass eyes contribute to the depth and liveliness of the expressions. The garments, original to the period, are made of polychrome fabrics that are naturally worn with age yet still convey the material richness and decorative value of the ensemble.
From a conservation standpoint, the group has undergone declared and conservative restorations: some fingers and some feet have been reconstructed; the faces have received consolidation treatments, with a more significant restoration on the face of the Virgin Mary compared to those of Saint Anne and Saint Joachim. The base has also been subject to conservation work, and the original halos are missing. The interventions are coherent and respectful, preserving the formal balance and devotional impact of the work, which retains an authentic patina and profound charm.
Overall, this is a group of strong visual presence and significant collectible value, particularly suitable for collectors of antique sacred art, historic nativity figures, devotional sculptures in terracotta and fabric, or for those seeking a work of strong historical and spiritual evocative power.
