Wall-mounted holy water font of devotional character, made of carved wood and modeled stucco, featuring a central oval insert depicting the face of Christ, likely carved in meerschaum. The piece can be attributed to the mid-19th century, approximately between 1850 and 1870, and reflects a Napoleonic and post-Napoleonic aesthetic, characterized by a revival of late Baroque models and a strong decorative theatricality.
The frame displays a dynamic and sculptural design, with pronounced scrolls and reliefs surrounding the central medallion, creating a strong sense of depth. The figure of Christ, finely modeled, conveys an intense and contemplative expression; the material is very likely meerschaum, widely used in 19th-century devotional production for small reliefs and sacred busts.
The stucco decoration and the figure of Christ have undergone restoration, with conservation work carried out to ensure stability and overall legibility. The original protective glass covering the figure and the holy water container are missing; these absences are transparently reported and do not detract from the historical, collectible, or decorative value of the object. The holy water font retains a strong visual presence and authentic charm, making it particularly suitable for collectors of 19th-century sacred art and for historically inspired interiors.
